The aim of this document is to provide the reader with an up-dated and exhaustive vision of theworldwide knowledge concerning the design of rockfall protection embankments (RPE). As adefinition, any structure in elevation of at least 2 m with respect to the ground, mostly made ofgranular materials (soil, gravel, …) and built with the aim of intercepting falling blocks areconsidered as RPE, whatever their cross sectional shape.
