Solar protection systems are implemented for shading in summer. The proposed project examines the effect of solar protection systems in relation to the heating demand of buildings. During one heating season, average shade factors of 68 residential and office buildings have been determined based on facade fotos. Moreover, with the calculated shading factors, the efficiency potential of an optimised solar protection control is estimated. The contribution of solar protection systems to the building performance gap in heating demand is determined empirically.
