Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The aim of the project was to produce publications of reference on the taxonomy, biology and ecology of parasitoids attacking conifer-feeding xylophagous insects in Europe. This work was based on a critical literature survey, examination of museum specimens and specimens collected by laboratories involved in the COST action BAWBILT (E16). The taxonomy component of the project was particularly important, and included the building of identification keys for parasitoids emerging from conifer logs. These keys are aimed at non taxonomists, e.g. forest entomologists, students, etc. The research itself ended in December 2003. The major outputs are (1) three book chapters on the natural enemies of xylophagous insects (Scolytidae, Curculionidae, Cerambycidae and Buprestidae), presently in press. These chapters summarize the knowledge and research on natural enemies, particularly parasitoids, in Europe. (2) A web-site that will include the identification keys and details on the biology and ecology of the parasitoid species and genera. The web-site will be freely accessible to the scientific community in the course of 2004.
