Abstract
(Englisch)
The success of COST 716 in GPS meteorology has continued throughout the 4 years. Now, it appears that the work will lead to operational procedures for the benefit of both the GPS community and for numerical weather prediction. Also the climate community has discovered the GPS data as a valuable source of water-vapour information. A formal contract between Swisstopo and MeteoSwiss for operational data exchange between the two offices was discussed and signed by the two Directors in Summer 2003. It is expected that the impact of GPS meteorology will increase with the growing size of the network of participating GPS stations. Therefore international solutions must be preferred to national ones. The current plans take this aspect into account. Steps towards building a European GPS network have been initiated, providing data for use in numerical weather prediction and climate. This network is planned to operate under the EUMETNET Composite Observing Systems (EUCOS). The European COST Action 716 will terminate in March 2004.
