Abstract
(Englisch)
This project came to its end last year. Globally, it is fair to say that it was not a big success. The reason is that most of the numerous participants, from outside of Switzerland, had no experience at all of COST projects and were expecting too much, in particular in terms of financial support. However, at Geneva University, we took advantage of this project to launch two nice collaborations. The first one with the University of Twente, The Netherlands, on non-linear polarization rotations in telecom optical fibers, which was the subject of our report of last year. The second collaboration, with the University of Nice, France, on the use of waveguides in periodically polled LiNbO3, allowed us to demonstrate today's most effective two-photon source (Electr. Lett. 37, 26-28, 2001). Recently, we could use this source to demonstrate entanglement between photons produced in this waveguide, with the weakest power ever used, only a few microwatts (to appear in Europ. J. Phys). This collaboration will be pursued after the end of this COST project.
