Abstract
(English)
The participation of our company in the COST P2 Action was initially motivated by the potential offered in the frame of COST for collaboration with European researchers in the field of non-linear effects in semiconductors photonic waveguides. Our company fabricates devices that incorporate such waveguides which are used worldwide in fibre telecommunications. The role of Opto Speed SA was initially to offer especially developed packaged components, ready to use in inter-laboratory measurement round-robins. These components use quarternary bulk InP-based materials and operate in the wavelength range around 1550 nm. We have collaborated with the ETH Zurich and with European laboratories to determine specific nonlinear characteristics of our devices. It tuns out that the Opto Speed components show remarkable nonlinearities that can be used in practical systems. The COST co-operation has thus enabled our small but highly specialised company to disseminate its know-how to well-known scientific laboratories in Europe that participate in the COST forum.
