Abstract
(English)
Public space is a fundamental dimension of the urban dynamics: it concerns city planing, architecture, urban engineering, urban society, current behaviors of city dwellers, political decisions. However, seldom social sciences study public spaces. Our research tempts to correct the absence of social sciences publications on this fundamental theme. We principally research on Genevan public spaces. Sociologists, political scientists, geographers, architects and city planners analyse a network of public spaces in their multidimentional complexity (social actors, architecture, political decisions, urban morphology, etc.). Nevertheless, we try to better understand the role of users and inhabitants in this complexity. Our results show their practices and representations and they demonstrate the signification of public spaces in the urban Genevan dynamics.
