COST Action 333 (Development of New Bituminous Pavement Design Methods) was initiated in 1995 by the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories (FEHRL) as part of the Strategic European Research Programme (SERRP). This Action was originally scheduled to end in March 1998. However, with 19 participating countries, the support for the action exceeded expectations. Therefore, a one-year extension was approved by the Technical Committee on Transport to take advantage of this extensive pool of knowledge and expertise. In this prolongation, studies have been extended to incorporate inputs from a wider distribution of countries and the role of analytical design models in dealing with the pavement maintenance will be examined. Also, supporting information has been obtained from an accelerated pavement testing executed at the Laboratoire des Voies de Circulation (LAVOC) and from a complementary research project called AMADEUS, which aims at evaluating existing advanced analytical pavement models.
