Abstract
(English)
This is the final report of COST Action 712 on microwave radiometry. The last period was used to complete the four projects by four final reports, and to conclude the action by a final symposium which was held at ECMWF (UK) in November 2000. ECMWF was chosen in order to attract as many scientists from the application areas (as opposed to remote sensing specialists) to the symposium. The meeting was well attended by scientists from national meteorological services (ECMWF, Meteo-France, UK Met Office, KNMI, DNMI, MSC) and environmental agencies. In addition the satellite services were well represented with attendance from EUMETSAT, the integrated programme office of NOAA and NOAA/NESDIS. There was also a strong attendance from universities and government agencies from throughout Europe. In addition a summer school with the involvment of several experts from COST 712 took place in L'Aquila in September 2000. Although COST 712 was a small action of only 7 participating countries, for the first time, experts of remote sensing and meteorology joined to advance microwave radiometry on a European level. The links between scientists in Europe improved significantly. For the last year, the Swiss members of the management committee became even more active than before by chairing two projects (C. Mätzler for project 1, N. Kämpfer for the high-frequency part of project 4) and by chairing the action (C- Mätzler).
