Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
Swiss forests often are not well supplied with nutrients. This fact may have consequences for growth processes and crown transparency, the latter being an important parameter for forest health surveys in Europe. Furthermore, renewable energy sources, such as trees, become more and more important in the future, leading to increasing amounts of wood ash which have to be deposited as waste. The project followed two aims: In a middle-aged Norway spruce/beech stand tree nutrition is optimised during three growing seasons using the steady-state fertilization technique introduced by Ingestad and Lund (1986). The effects of the improved fertilization on trees, vegetation and soil are documented. At the same time, wood ash is applied twice to a total amount of 8 t/ha in an additional treatment and its effects on the same compartments compared with the optimum nutrition. An undisturbed forest area and an area treated with water served as controls.
