Abstract
(English)
During the course of COST 822 project, the research activities are aimed at enhancing the knowledge that allows the use of new plant biotechnologies for agricultural purposes. Special attention is paid to develop in vitro culture techniques via organogenesis for large-scale propagation of ornamental, aromatic and medecine plants such as Gerbera jamesonii (Lê, 1999b), Artemisia umbelliformis Lam. (Lê, 1998a,b) and Arnica montana L. (Lê, 1998c). These techniques provide rapid multiplication of elite selections contributing to produce valuable nuclear stock plants to be incorporated into different breeding programs. Attention is also given to improving the environnemental factors controlling the in vitro tuberization process of potato with the aim of providing high health status nuclear stock for certification and large scale multiplication (Lê & Page, 1998). As far as the exploitation of the capacity of regeneration de novo in commonly grown potato is concerned, research also aims at examining the risk of potential changes (somaclonal variation), during tissue-culture process, and at improving the understanding of the morphogenetical responses, particularly in species of Solanum tuberosum (Lê et al., 1997). An evaluation of the conditions of culture regarding some factors controlling the growth and the rooting in woody species, such as basal mineral salt, calcium supply, growth retardants and mode of treatments, was made in view of promoting the quality of plants produced in vitro for the species Castanea.
