Abstract
(Englisch)
The alloy Ti48.6at.%A1-1.9at.%Cr-1.9at.%Nb-1at.%B studied by all project partners in an aim to improve the availability and quality of intermetallic-based materials, was obtained in the as-forged condition and heat treated to establish a nearly equiaxed or a fully lamellar two-phase microstructure. Transmission electron microscopy served to reveal microstructural features after uniaxial compressive deformation at room temperature or 1000°C. The lamellar material shows interfacial dislocations with Burgers vectors mostly lying within the interfacial planes. After plastic deformation, the density of interfacial dislocations with Burgers vectors inclined to the interfaces increases. Local shear strains can be determined from the arrangement of thickness fringes in different weak-beam electron micrographs. The highest shear values are found near the tips of deformation twins. A heat treatment at 1 380°C followed by air cooling favors the formation of gamma- and alpha-lamellae in equal amounts.
