Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The proposal is concerned with both aerosol particles directly emitted by aircraft engines and with the new particulate materials formed within the aircraft wake. It arises from the growing concern that such materials might affect the climate through their influence on upper atmospheric chemistry and cloud coverage. The effect of engine conditions on the formation of these materials is not understood. The project aims to rectify this important gap in the present knowledge base so that engine designers will be able to predict more accurately the total emissions performance of new or improved versions of existing engines and thereby control them. The programme involves the application of special equipment, measuring techniques to generate the new database. It also involves the development of mathematical models of the physical and chemical processes so that effective prediction methods can be developed.
