Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The aim of this work package within the whole project is strain optimization for xylose catabolism. Several improved clones were identified from previous evolution experiments and tested. With respect to xylose to ethanol conversion under industrial conditions, the best evolved strains are clearly superior to the tradionally engineering strains but also to the available industrial strains. In this second phase, we concentrated on two aspects. First, several relevant areas of mutations were identified that are used now to identify the molecular basis for the obtained improvements. This work is done in close collaboration with several partners to enable new rational metabolic engineering strategies to improve xylose catabolism. Second, the successful evolution procedure is now used also for evolution of polyploid industrial strains in collaboration with the industrial partner.
