Abstract
(Englisch)
The second year of the EMERGE project was still devoted to the campaign, but mainly to the data quality evaluation, preliminary elaboration and the data delivery to the workpackage persons in charge. The research area is located in the southern slope of the Swiss Alps (approximately in the catchments of the Maggia and the Verzasca rivers). In this region 14 lakes (12 survey plus 2 experimental sites) have been investigated.Meteorological data of Robiei (1890 m asl) provided by MeteoSwiss such as relative humidity, temperature, wind strength and precipitation volumes, have been used to estimate the hydrological balance of the 2 experimental lakes. Furthermore, the sampling of atmospheric deposition has been performed using four different deposition collectors at Robiei. A wet-and-dry sampler collected weekly samples for the analysis of the main ions, two bulk collectors have been used for fortnightly collection of SCPs and heavy metals, and at last a bulk collector has been exposed for monthly sampling of POPs. This POPs campaign is still ongoing.Skyline measurements for shading assessment have been performed on all 14 lakes. Two chains with each 10 miniature thermistors with integrated data loggers exposed for 12 months have been retrieved from the experimental lakes together with 9 thermistors out of 12 from the survey lakes (3 haven't been found). The data have been downloaded and the checking is ongoing. 31 soil samples have been collected according to the EMERGE protocols in the catchments of Laghetto Inferiore and Superiore, Lago d'Alzasca, Lago di Mognòla, Lago del Starlaresc da Sgióf and Lago di Tomé. Following parameters have been measured according to both protocols of EMERGE and of the Swiss Federal Research Station for Plant Production (RAC), Changins: pH, carbon and nitrogen, exchangeable acidity and cations. The soil data evaluation is in progress. Furthermore, soil probes from each horizon were also sent to HBL-ASCR, University of South Bohemia, Ceske Budejovice (CZ) for biological analyses (second level). Lake water for chemical analysis (pH, alkalinity, Conductivity, O2, major ions and nutrients, TP, TN, TOC, silica, metals) has been sampled twice during the ice cover period in both experimental sites.Biological analyses of epilithic diatoms, littoral invertebrates, pelagic zooplankton, chlorophyll 'a' and bacteria by HBL-ASCR, University of South Bohemia, Ceske Budejovice (CZ) have been concluded. Harmonisation with EMERGE specialists is ongoing. In the frame of this project we attended Meetings in Mallorca on February 27 - March 2 2001, in Innsbruck on October 24-26 2001, in Pallanza on November 29-30 2001 and in Copenaghen on January 11-16 2002, where we also presented three posters. One publication has been submitted to 'Water, Air, and Soil Pollution' and other four are in progress.
