Abstract (English)

Systema Porifera' project .
This project aims to summarise, and revise where necessary, the supraspecific classification of the Phylum Porifera, including living and fossil genera, based on re-evaluation of type material and recent biological evidence. The resultant classification of Porifera will be a synthesis of contemporary revisions, morphological systematics and non-morphological evidence. It is anticipated that this completed project will provide a previously inaccessible window into the taxonomy of this difficult phylum.
Revision of all relevant type Porifera material is essential to resolve most of the nomenclatural and taxonomic problems and uncertainties still exist in the two orders of of my speciality.
