Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
In general, OCCAMM addresses IPR management and protection technologies enabling controlled access to multimedia content in an open environment.
The project develops and integrates technologies, architectures and interfaces for providing controlled access to interactive multimedia application and services. While those applications allow for seamless interactivity with text, graphics, video and sound at the end-user level, they also need to run on top of auditable, untamperable hardware and software components that implement policies for controlled access to multimedia content.
In fact, like in the previous year, most of the effort OCCAMM spent in relating to other 1ST E3 projects was devoted to raising some awareness of the importance of IPR protection issues in the multimedia field, regardless of the particular set of technologies each project is interested in developing or exercising.
During the various concertation activities, such effort included:
.illustrating the OCCAMM software components security features and trying to fin~ out a way to insert and exploit them in other projects' architectures;
.tutoring on IPR protection and management issues by means of both general presentations on standardisation activities in the field (OPIMA, MPEG IPMP, SDMI, MPEG-21) and participation in the drafting of a report on metadata issues, particularly as regards IPR-related metadata;
So, the main goal of OCCAMM, which is deemed to be also in line with the main objectives of the Programme, was to support and foster adoption of an overall security architecture compliant to the OPIMA, MPEG and SDMI specifications, as well as of open APls to be used in order to achieve an effective level of interoperability between different implementations of security components. Conversely, OCCAMM had some interest in other projects providing trials platform where OCCAMM business models and technical solutions in the area of secure digital multimedia distribution could be tested and validated.
Such effort was undertaken considering that such kind of sinergy would have a large potential for successive industrial exploitation and would contribute to enhance the market perspectives of standardised architectures that address controlled distribution of multimedia material. Also, the outcome might encourage European content producers, service providers, connectivity providers and industrial suppliers of information appliances and systems to enter the digital multimedia market and to organise take-up actions of the relevant project results in the area of secure content delivery.
