Abstract
(English)
The ASSET project aims to bring together technological expertise and applications requirements to accelerate the realization of smart structures in Europe. It is designed as a network of experts from the different technology areas and is designed to foster exchange of information and ideas and to encourage the launch of other application-oriented EU projects.
'Smart Structures' describe a structural entity - be it a bridge, dam, highway or building from civil engineering, an oil tanker or a racing yacht from marine engineering, a train or automobile in ground transportation, an aircraft or space vehicle from aerospace, or a pipeline or oil recovery platform from the energy sector - which incorporates within its fabric sensory and actuation systems linked and controlled through advanced signal processing and designed to enhance structural functionality.
Internal reports were issued on the following themes:
· Micromechanical Sensor
· Guided Wave Optical Sensor Technologies
· Guided Wave Optical Figures
· Software Tools and Processing Algorithms
· Sensor Expertise
· Actuator Report
The ASSET Network has organized a public workshop and demonstrator show at the Presqu'île de Giens, France on 21-23 May 2002.
SMARTEC contributed to the workshop with a keynote presentation and a demonstrator on the SOFO technology.
