Abstract
(English)
The project has developed and implemented at a prototype level a STEP-based data model for the CNC manufacturing process. The results have the potential to change significantly part programming as well as the interaction between CNC and part programming systems, and finally these results are expected to give a new part programming language that shall widely substitute ISO 6983, changing significantly the entire CAD / CAM / CNC chain.
Agie's role in the project, as an EDM machine tool builder, has been to make contributions specific to the EDM process technology, taking into account EDM machine tool and CNC manufacturer requirements, as well as EDM machine tool users current practices.
The experience gained by AGIE in developing and implementing AGIEVISION on its own products has been of help in doing the various project tasks, from end user demands and concerns collection to usability considerations and data modeling and implementation. AGIEVISION is an Agie inhouse developed, object data model based, EDM CNC.
Since the STEP-NC approach radically changes the current practices along the entire CAD /CAM /CNC process chain, the results produced in this three year project are more prototypical than ready to be exploited. Although the results are promising they need further extensive verifications and refinements before being exploitable to develop STEP-NC products.
