Abstract
(Englisch)
The first SLATS project outcome is a set of software functions required to develop software radio applications. The second is the demonstration of the baseband re-configurability principle based upon a multiprocessor system target under the control of a real time operating system (RTOS).
The developed software libraries are suitable for use in a wide variety of mobile radio applications (WCDMA and GSM). The libraries produced include high integrity functions intended for both real-time products and prototypes as well as for use within simulation environments. The demonstration of the re-configurability principle was made possible with the development of open real-time software architecture. This open architecture for re-configurable radio systems has the objectives to be hardware independent, to have a set of standardized API interfaces (Application Programmer Interface) and to be re-configurable.
The software library is then directed towards those functions that software radio application developers would like supplied in a COTS package to reduce development costs and times and to increase product integrity. Through the universality of the chosen approach, the libraries will be easily transferred to other DSP target boards as well as the concept of the open software architecture will be taken and adapted to the RTOS that is chosen to control the DSP board.
The existence of the libraries will encourage the dissemination of software defined radio technology by encouraging potential developers because of reduced development risks.
These results are important as a step towards the future networks, in which the users will move from one system to another simultaneously. The SLATS supervisor maybe viewed as a nascent network agent and, in a more mature form, be a guide through out the various networks. In this way, this SLATS result is a kind of system that makes the navigation throughout the network easier and that facilitates the user acceptance of the technology helping opening the market to IP services.
