Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
The objectives of the ACTS MARINE project are to identify and explore Intelligent Network (IN) services and network architectural issues combining mobile agents and distributed processing environment technologies with broadband IN elements. The project seeks to explore the benefits given by mobile agents and distributed processing environment technologies for service provisioning and to investigate the implications of such technologies on user mobility while specifically addressing the concept of a Virtual Home Environment. The project will perform experiments to validate proposed solutions.

During 1998, Swisscom made substantial contributions to the MARINE functional architecture, specified mobility management information flows and contributed to general mobility concepts. Responsibilities included editorial and review work. With regard to dissemination of project results, Swisscom contributed to the standardization work of the ETSI NA6 UMTS Task Force and presented a paper on mobility management aspects at the IS&N'99 conference. Swisscom also co-authored a paper for the 1999 ACTS Mobile Summit.

Following the 1998 audit by the European Commission, the project was complimented for well done architectural work and the audit report noted that MARINE is positioned to be the entity defining the IN architecture of the future.
