Abstract
(Englisch)
PHEBUS FP Fission Product (FP) is an international severe accident research programme managed by the Institut de Protection et de Sureté Nucléaire (IPSN), the European Commission (EC), and Electricité de France (EdF), in association with the Candu Owner's Group (Canada), USNRC (U.S.), NUPEC and JAERI (Japan), KAERI (Korea) as well as HSK and PSI (Switzerland).
The main objective of the PHEBUS FP project is to reproduce in an integral system the main phenomena which affect the source term, from the beginning of the fuel heat-up phase to the release of the fission products in the environment.
In an in-pile facility, located in Cadarache France, fresh and irradiated fuel rod bundle with a control rod or a debris bed are subjected to extensive degradation in a steam rich or poor environment. Transport and behaviour of the fission products, actinides and structural materials are investigated in a circuit representative of the reactor coolant system including pipes, a steam generator and a model containment building. Two out of six experiments were conducted. The main outcome of the first two experiments to date is that i) eutectic reactions lower the uranium melting temperature considerably and ii) the presence of unexpectedly high gaseous iodine concentrations in the containment
PHEBEN, 'Phebus Benchmark' is a CEC-4th Framework concerted action programme with an objective to perform post test analysis of the first two tests, FPTO and FPTl. Eleven European organisations, AEA Technology (UK), CIEMAT (Spain), ENEA (Italy), Forschungszentrum Siebersdof (Austria), GRS Köln and Garching (Germany), IPSBICEA-Cadarache (France), JRC-Ispra (EU), University degli Studi Pisa (Italy), UPM Madrid (Spain) as well as PSI (Switzerland), who are also members of the Phebus project, participate in this benchmark exercise. The main goal of the exercise is to assess the severe accident computer programs using the integral data from these two Phebus experiments.
PSI participation in PHEBEN foresees post test analysis of only the Phebus test FPT1. The core degradation, fission product transport in the primary circuit and thermal-hydrauliclaerosol and iodine behaviour in the Phebus containment are analysed using respectively, SCDAP/RELAP5, VICTORIA, CONTAIN and IMPAIR3 codes. IMPAIR3 is a containment iodine behaviour code and is PSI's own development. It is word wide recognised and widely used.
