Abstract
(English)
The FLOWnet initiative is intended to provide the scientific and industrial communities with a code validation tool for flow modeling and computational / experimental methods (subsonic, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic regimes). Such scientific development constitutes a crucial and mandatory step in the industrial validation. By means of network databases, multi-disciplinary knowledge is cross fertilized and archived. It provides share of technical complements (test case definitions, experiments, models, grids, codes, etc.) to scientists and engineers. It enhances quality trust in the pre-industrial process.
The ultimate goal of the network is to bring together academic and industrial node partners in a dynamical open way to evaluate continously in terms of accuracy and efficiency the quality and performance of CFD software for improving complex design in industry.
ABB Turbo Systems is member of the propulsion / turbomachinery group together with the von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics (VKI) and The Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) in Belgium, Alstom Power Ltd in Great Britain and the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) in Schimatari, Greece. VKI coordinates the work and provides testcases. Computational results for 3 workshops have been installed on the server of INRIA, Sophia-Antipolis for online comparison during workshops. Group partners have access to these data.
ABB Turbo Systems' contributions were 7 flow simulations with and without heat transfer around turbine and compressor vanes. Our computational results are in good agreement with the experimental data. During September 2002 each participant will receive a set of CD-ROMs with a representative selection of computational results of all 6 disciplines of FLOWnet: Turbomachinery, Aerospace, Wind Energy, Multi-Optimisation, Multi-Physics and Transient Aerodynamics.)
