Fourteen laboratories from ten European countries participate in the certification of the content of twelve polychlorbiphenyls (PCBs) congeners in a, North Sea Mussels sample.
After checking method, linearity of detectors and recoveries by means of standards addition at four differents levels six individual fully independent analyses have to be carried out, using independent calibration curves.
Sample, mixed with florisil, was extracted by mean of a solvent mixture. A complementary clean-up allowed to analyse the PCBs contents by gas-liquid chromatography with electron capture detectors on two different polarity capillary columns.
Chromatograms of all six measurements on both columns, chromatograms of an unknown standard solution, a blank, sample extract without internal standards added have to be submitted.
Our results were in good agreement with the other laboratories results.
