Abstract
(Englisch)
Our research work and the projects in the field of molecular magnetism focus on the following aspects: Design, synthesis, crystal growth, structural studies and physical property studies of novel molecular materials. Thereby, we have investigated in great detail different chemical systems which are of interest to the field of molecular magnetism. The followin4H2O (M = Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+) are obtained by the reaction of the appropriate ions with the octacyano-metallate building block K4[NbIV(CN)8]. The paramagnetic metal centers are inter-connected by bridging cyanides, which favor magnetic interactions. These interactions lead to co-operative magnetic behavior below a critical temperature Tc (50 K for Mn2+, 41 K for Fe2+ and 13 K for Co2+). The magnetization vs. field curves show saturation values of 9.5 _magnetic structure in more detail, elastic neutron scattering experiments for the Mn2+ and Fe2+ derivatives were performed at the SINQ facilities of the PSI in Switzerland. In both compounds we detected a series of magnetic peaks, which demonstrates the presence of magnetic ordering below the corresponding critical temperatures.

High-Spin Molecules:
A New Cyano Bridged Ni9IIMo6V Cluster with an S = 12 Ground State

The design and synthesis of new molecule based magnetic compounds has become one of the most active areas in materials chemistry. Particular attention has been focused on molecular compounds with a large ground state spin (S) [1], for application as 'single molecular magnet' SMM. As an example, the structural and magnetic properties of a novel molecular cluster of stoichiometry [NiII{NiII(MeOH)3}8(
