Abstract
(English)
Despite of Europe's world-wide reputation and leading role in fundamental research in the filed of software tools for high-performance computing and networking (HPCN), only a few tools were successfully productized and marketed. Reasons for this are the absence of a European HPCN hardware industry and the lack of active end-user involvement in the design, development and validation process.

It is the goal of the EuroTools Working Group to increase the use of European HPCN software tools and enlarge their field of application in Europe and aboard and to encourage the collaboration between end-users (that is, application developers), tool developers an independent software vendors commercialising the results of the project-based developments.

The dissemination activities have resulted in significantly increased visibility of the European HPCN software tools industry and research in the end-user community. Better information about the existence and functionality of these tools as well as information about the potential gain in productivity when using them has been provided to the end-users. This has bee done by cooperation with existing European events, projects and organizations in the field such as the HPCN technology transfers nodes, HPCN and other established user groups. Specific results comprise:

· A state-of-the-art, well-referred and frequently visited Web site, containing a comprehensive tools repository of prototypes, consolidated prototypes and products, as well as announcement of events organized or sponsored by EuroTools.
· Flyers summarizing the EuroTools activities have been largely distributed by EuroTools members at many international conferences and exhibitions.
· Organization of EuroTools workshops in the context of existing conferences, sponsoring or support of existing workshops or conferences, participation to conferences and other events organized by others, and contacts with other groups active in the field of HPCN tools.
· A comprehensive survey of user needs for HPCN tools, based on a detailed questionnaire distributed via mailing lists and major conferences.
· The establishment of several Special Interest Groups in areas of interest to users of and software developer for HPCN systems.
