Abstract
(English)
The goal of the consortium was to develop room temperature, distributed feedback quantum cascade lasers based on intersubband transitions for spectroscopy applications. Within the UNISEL consortium, the University of Neuchatel had the task of developing such lasers based on the InP/InGaAs/AlInAs materials grown by MBE. During the course of this project, all the important milestones have been met. Room temperature Distributed Feedback Quantum cascade lasers with world record performances have been demonstrated: in particular, single mode optical powers up to 1W at 0C and single mode average powers of 10mW at 30C have been achieved. Such devices were successfully used in a prototype by one of the end-user particiant, Orbisphere.
The project's scientific results have enabled a spin-off company 'Alpes Lasers' to begin the commercialisation of quantum cascade lasers.
