Abstract
(Englisch)
The EPFLIDGIULPAS Lidar group has been involved in the European Eurotrack/LOOP measurement campaign in the Milano area. From the 6th of april to the 9th of June, the group has deployed in Seregno, 25 km north of Milano, a set of up to date air pollution measurement instruments. A van with classical point monitor measuring 03, CO, S02, Nox, PMlO and meteorological parameters has been operated continuously from the 6th of april to the 9th of June. A DOAS system, actually under development under a contract between EPFL and Thermo Environment Inc. has been operated continuously between the 10th of may and the 9th of June. This instrument measures 03, N02, N03, S02, Benzene, Toluene, Silene (Mera, Ortho, Para) and Trioxane. In the same time, a microwaves wind profiler form the Institut Suisse de Météorologie has been operated by the group in Seregno. We had to emphasised that those instruments where working 24h per day, on a semi-automatic configuration, thus providing a very complete database of meteorology and ground level air pollution vaiues for the period. From the 10th of may to the 9th of June, the EPFL lidar has also been installed in Seregno. This system is able to measure ozone profiles from the ground to few km in altitude, using two UV laser beams. It has been operated during the Intensive Observation Period, which were defined by the different participating groups from the expected pollution and meteorological conditions. The lidar measurements are very important in order to caracterise the vertical extension of the ozone content. Coupled with the wind measurements, it can give the net ozone flux incoming or leaving the area. Complementary measurement have been made by an airborne ozone lidar operated by a French group. Their measures gives a 3D image of the ozone content in the Milano area, while our measures gives the vertical temporal evolution in one point. As part of the STAAARTE program, two peoples from the EPFL team have flown onboard the aircraft and have participated to airborne lidar measures. We have a copy of ail the data acquired during the 9 different flights, and we will process the lidar data. Moreover, a radon measurement has been installed in one of ours van by the Milano University. The point monitor and wind profiler data has already been validated and transferred to the LOOP database while the Doas and lidar data are currently under analysis.
