Abstract
(English)
CATHODE 2 (ESPRIT WG 24490) was the follow up of the ESPRIT working group CATHODE (ESPRIT WG 7213), in which concepts and system primitives necessary for future work were developed. The original CATHODE group was significantly broadened since additional skills and background were needed.
The goal of CATHODE 2 was twofold:
- to produce a set of cooperating computer algebra tools for the manipulation and solution of ordinary differential equations and systems.
- the application of these tools to problems from industrial applications.
Due to the existence of CATHODE 2 four workshops were held, involving the whole working group and many smaller meetings, involving only subgroups, were organized. Also many visits among members of the working group were made to stimulate mutual research. Contacts to industry were initiated that resulted in some fruitful collaborations.
During the three years of CATHODE 2 the following progress was made:
- Theory: in several areas significant progress has been made both in insight and the development of new algorithms. This has resulted in many publications.
- Software: many (new) algorithms, interfaces and environments have been implemented and made available on the www .
- Applications: several problems coming from the industrial contacts have been studied which led to more insight and (partial) solutions.

More details can be found in the CATHODE 2 final report and the annual reports by the working group. These are all attached to this report or to the previous annual reports. More information and some software produced by the CATHODE 2 group is available on the CATHODE 2 web server at http://www-lmc.imag.fr/cathode2/.
