Abstract
(Englisch)
The ARIADNE II Project, focuses on computer-based and telematics supported education and training. It seeks to foster share and reuse of pedagogical documents. Authoring, indexation, management and access tools are being deployed, tested and further developed. The growing network of interconnected knowledge pools (the KPS) serves as a repository of learning objects, from which structured curricula can be built and distributed. During the elapsed period, the Project's efforts were focused on (i) preparation of the verification/demonstration experiments and starting several of these and (ii) further development of selected Tools (third generation prototypes) and expanding the KPS. These objectives were met without refocusing or rescheduling, and with only minor and partial delays. INFORGE-HEC UNIL is one of the main RTD partners acting also as Corporations' coordinator.
RTD GOALS : INFORGE-HEC UNIL is in charge of (1) developing the pedagogical hypertext authoring tool, named SEPHYR - SEgmentation tool and Pedagogical HYpertext generatoR - (2) developing pedagogical material and curricula (3) conducting a number of large scale experiments in the framework of both academic and professional environments (4) developing an ARIADNE on-line course on the use of SEPHYR and (5) participating in the definition of the meta-data to care for business requirements.
RTD RESULTS : Extensive use of SEPHYR - locally and at partners' and users' places - induced some debugging, modifications, and extensions. The toolkit is now available both in French and English. Developments in Java were conducted to try and develop a multiplatform authoring environment.
A large number of on-line modules have been developed with the ARIADNE platform as complement to traditional courses. Tested until now on more than a thousand students at UNIL (undergraduate and postgraduate), the knowledge domains concerned are : Information technologies, linguistics, biology, accountancy, entrepreneurship, marketing, chemistry, and Java programming. The results of these 'verification experiments' are very encouraging inducing, at students' request, other professors to develop on-line complementary modules, thus actively contributing to the Swiss Virtual Campus efforts.
The success and impact of this project led UNIL to set up the CENTEF(Centre des technologies de l'éducation et de la formation) that aims at helping and coordinating faculty members'efforts in using ICT.
