Résumé des résultats (Abstract)
(Anglais)
In today's increasingly international workplace, the importance of document localisation has never been greater. Products exist to aid translation between the more common European languages, but the IDOL project aims to be the first to produce high quality localisation software that incorporates the Arabic language. Targeting translators from both the European Union and Developing Countries (DC), the software includes complete document management facilities, electronic conferencing and a translation memory module that can function in any of the languages of the system (including initially Arabic, English and French).
The core development will be based on existing international (ISO) standards and will adapt current technology to offer the DC users similar capabilities to those currently enjoyed by users of the common EC languages. Special attention will be paid to the incorporation of the Arabic language in the morphology, dictionary and thesaurus modules as well as in the text alignment component, permitting existing translations to be added to the translation memory bank.
The project is INCO funded and is being developed by a consortium headed by
EPOS S.A. (Paris) with partners UMIST (UK), ISSCO (Switzerland), UNIVERSAL
(Tunisia) and IME (Lebanon).
