Résumé des résultats (Abstract)

Main Objectives
The primary goal of GINA is to harmonise, enhance and disseminate Guidelines about network evolution, network interoperability and ATM deployment, reflecting the latest findings and results of trials within ACTS but also reflecting the findings about the world-wide evolutionary trends in network interoperability and the development and deployment of ATM.
Technical approach
The project is organised in 3 workpackages: Project Management (WP1), Information (Internal and External) collection and compilation, Dissemination of information (WP2), and Consolidation and publishing (WP3).
Telscom Contribution

Telscom played a major role in the project being a member of WP1, leader of WP2 and responsible for information dissemination. Telscom was also a rapporteur of NI Chain group and NIM chain.
Out of many comparative projects addressing the Guidelines, NI Chain group was considered as the most important project under the stewardship of GINA project, in motivating the projects in contributing to the Guidelines development and producing record number of NI Guidelines (26 Guidelines in total).
Telscom was responsible on bahalf of GINA to establish a good liaison with multiple projects, fora and standards groups for information exchange. The project has established interactive web site as a part of endorsing procedure and continuous update of documents taking into account all comments.
During 1999 and 2000, GINA/TELSCOM organised multiple dissemination events. The major ones being Rennes workshop during Mar. 99 and 2000 (co-located with ATM developments'99 and 2000) and Interactive distributed conference from Madrid linking multiple European centres. This conference was considered as a real demonstration of interoperating technologies involving ATM, ISDN, Satellite and Internet. The network was managed by EXPERT project with a dedicated workpackage put in place for that. The proceedings of the conference were produced by the project.
GINA/Telscom assisted in the orgnisation of Eurescom workshop in Heidelberg with ACTS contributions. In addition, Telscom published regular newsletters for each concertation meeting.
The Guidelines were made available in the form of book and a CD-ROM which were distributed widely during the Telecom'99 in Geneva and IST'99 in Helsinki.
NI chain had a special session in the IEEE Globecom conference, in Brasil where multiple Guidelines were presented and the book on Guidelines distributed. Few authors are invited to contribute to IEEE journal with the Guidelines.
The close co-operation between FORA (ETSI, Eurescom, ATM Forum) has given the project very high profile in the ACTS framework.
The project was extended until Mar'2000, so as to complete the Guidelines with the contributions from on-going projects from the 3rd call and to get a peer review from the independent experts. Telscom was responsible for this review, by identifying the experts, engaging them and getting the reviews during Mar. - Apr. 2000 and to publish them. Due to delays in completing the Guidelines from various editors, the project could not conclude by the end of Mar. as planned. The project may formally conclude in Jun. 2000, with final reports expected from the experts.
