Abstract
(English)
EURALIM is a European public health project. Data on diet and nutrition from European surveys have been linked to describe the frequency of cardiovascular disease risk factors in seven European populations. These data were used to prepare a brochure for the general public as well as a supplement for public health professionals with additional analyses and rationale for interpretation. Potential inter-European contrasts that were recognized can become guidelines for policy makers to support the development of new prevention and control strategies. An evaluation of the EURALIM public awareness campaign in six European countries, comprising EURALIM Day activities and the diffusion of the brochure and supplement, was carried out.

Achievements of the final 9 months of activity (December 1997 to September 1998)

1. The general public brochure has been written, edited by all partners, and translated in seven languages. 60'000 copies were printed and distributed to public health professionals and the general public.
2. The supplement for public health professionals has been written, edited by all partner groups, and translated in seven languages. 300 public health professionals in each participating European country obtained the supplement for public health professionals in their local language.
3. An evaluation questionnaire was composed, edited by all partner groups, and translated in seven languages. The questionnaire was distributed to public health professionals and analyzed to assess the project's impact on professionals and the general public.
4. Intervention strategies for the diffusion of the « EURALIM KIT », including the 2 brochures and the evaluation questionnaire, as well as impact measurement methods have been established in all represented European study regions.
5. On May 19.1998, EURALIM Day took place in four European centers, the international press covered the event.
6. EURALIM was presented at conferences and first scientific papers were published and prepared for submission.
