Abstract (Englisch)

This project was a continuation of work done under a previous European project, LE EAGLES, with the aim of :
- accelerating the provision of standards for very large scale language resources (such as text-corpora, computational lexicons and speech corpora.
- Means of manipulating such knowledge via computational linguistic formalisms, mark-up languages and various software tools.
- Means of assessing and evaluating resources, tools and products.

In the current project, efforts were made to obtain feedback on the results of the earlier project, to incorporate the feedback and to disseminate the revised material. At the same time, an effort was made to identify areas where previous work could be strengthened or carried forward. The Swiss contribution was largely concerned with the work on evaluation. Two successful workshops organised with the dual aim of obtaining feedback and identifying directions for future work were organized, and a post project workshop aimed at disseminating the results obtained to the industrial community was also held. Ties to related ISO work were strengthened, and a first version of a 'Handbook of current Practices in Evaluation' was produced. The web site established in the previous project (http://www.cst.ku.dk/projects/eagles2.html) has been maintained and enlarged. An electronic discussion forum on matters pertaining to evaluation has been established and can be accessed through the same site.
