Abstract
(Englisch)
The Intelligent Manufacturing Systems - Working Group (IMS-WG) is a working group in the ESPRIT European research programme (project No. 21955). It is necessary to develop stable means for cooperation and systematic exchange of information by the partners in order to be able to carry out long-term research in the area of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, or IMS. The group currently covers Europe, but in the future will be actively extended into the different IMS regions (Europe, USA, Japan, Canada, Australia) in order to progressively cover the industrial nations of the world.
The general approach of the groups consists of organising workshops and short meetings for sharing tangibles results. The industrial partners (ABB, ALCATEL, ALFAMICRO, BICC DAIMLER BENZ, UNILEVER) assure the industrial pertinence of the activities.
EPFL/LICP was the leader of the cluster 'Modelling and Simulation of Manufacturing Life-cycles and a joint paper has been delivered including the results of the work of this group.
EPFL/LICP was also the representative of Switzerland in this project and liaison responsible of the IMS-WG with the USA. With this quality, LICP represented the IMS-WG in various international meetings in the USA and Japan.
In the IMS-WG work-programme, it is included the organisation of several informal and open workshops over a period of three years. Details about these activities are included in the final report of the project submitted to the EC and attached in this report.
The first open workshop has been organised at EPFL, from the 15th to the 17th April 1998, under the title 'First International Workshop on Intelligent Manufacturing Systems [IMS-EUROPE 1998]. 170 participants from Switzerland and all over the world assisted plenary and technical sessions where around 60 keynote and technical papers were presented and discussed.
The second open workshop will be organised at K.U.L., in Leuven, Belgique, from the 22nd to the 24th September 1999, in collaboration with the annual ASI'99 organised by ICIMS-NOE..
Finally, the project was extended for more 6 months and one more and final open workshop took place in Bordeaux, France, from the 18th to the 20th of September 2000, in collaboration with ASI'2000 and co-organised with ICIMS-NOE.
The proceedings of all three open workshops have been published and are available at LICP.
