Abstract
(Englisch)
The overall objective of the COBNET project is to establish the architectural and technological concepts suited for the next generation of high-performance Corporate Networks taking the advantage of photonic technologies. In the CPN backbone, the objective is to use the new photonic technologies with multichannel transmission, realized with space-and wavelength division multiplexing (SDM and WDM) techniques.

EPFL is involved in the control and management of the COBNET optical network. Those encompass the set of functions that maintain the optical network in operation. Control functions are imbedded in the network elements whereas management functions act as external supervisors.

EPFL participates in:
·Specification and implementation of control functions that allow automatic configuration and reconfiguration in presence of failures.
·Specification and implementation of network management functions and interfaces. The management functions involve configuration and fault management functionality.

During the months 31-40, we have:
·Implemented the configuration management functionality at each management level.
·Tested the management platform on Mk.I.
·Implemented the fault management functionality at each management level.
·Tested the updated management platform on Mk. II
·Built the final version of the Graphical user Interface for the Human Manager.
·Integrated and evaluated the complete system for the open day of the project that took place on Thursday 26 November 1998 at BT Laboratories (Ipswich, England).
