Abstract
(English)
The EXPERT project broadly addresses the area of integrated ATM networks performance, providing a major european tesbed for conducting experiments.
The ASPA contribution to the project comprises the management of the entire project as co-ordinating partner, the testbed maintenance and support (WP1.1), as well as activities for platform provisioning and usage (new WP1.3). The main activities of Swisscom, which are reported here, cover these two work packages. C.f. 1996 report for details of activities and of the overall project.
Some of the maintenance and supporting activities of the reporting period have been:
- Configuration / reconfiguration of the entire testbed, general maintenance
- HW and SW upgrades of various switches, e.g. OLICOM, FORE ASX-200/BX, CISCO LS-1010, Flextel, as well for the APON system
- Support and upgrade of test equipment, e.g. ATM-100 traffic generator / analyser, INTERWATCH 95000, HP 75000
- Installation and testing of new versions of ISABEL, a distributed MM conference application
- Demonstrations, including live link-up tele-presentations, for numerous groups of guests, e.g. authorities, EU officers, universities and engineering schools, research organisations, network operators, other companies, own employees and managers
- Operation and support of the EXPERT web server and the local LAN, preparation, loading and consistent updating of web pages.
Examples of major events supported are:
- Global 360 event in June 1997 (comprising extensive pre-testing and the operation during the multi-day event, heavily involving both EXPERT sites in Basel (panel discussion) and Leidschendam (control centre for ISABEL audio/video transmission), in co-operation with NICE_GLOBAL, JAMES and GINA (c.f. also report on the NICE project)
- Experiments and 'open day' of the REFORM project, also CA$HMAN, W4ATT, BONAPARTE tele-teaching trials, ASPeCT, TRUMPET, DIVINE, SUSIE virtual classroom
- IST'98 / Global 360 in November / December 1998, linked to the 'Swiss Information Society Event' conducted in parallel.
