Abstract

Project co-ordination objectives:
The main activity of Ascom covered by this BBW project is the co-ordination and management of the EXPERT (AC094) project. This work is done within Work Package Group 0 (WPG0), which performs the overall co-ordination within the project, with the ACTS Central Office, and as the first-line contact with user projects collaborating with EXPERT.
WPG0 comprises 2 Workpackages (WPs): WP0.1 'Project Management & Administration' and WP0.2 'Management Committee'. Ascom leads both of these WPs.
WP0.1 is responsible for ensuring that the contractual obligations with the ACTS Central Office are met, that a good working relationship with the ACTS Central Office is maintained and that appropriate management procedures are in place to guarantee the smooth running of the project. These include monthly reporting both from partners and to the Commission, and quarterly Management Committee meetings. The efficiency of the reporting and dissemination of information within the project is achieved through E-mail distribution lists for all WPGs, WPs, partner contact persons etc. The project maintains FTP Servers for easy exchange of documents between partners and also established WWW Servers to give up-to-date information about the project and the platform, lists and summaries of all Deliverables, visits etc, and for booking timeslots on the test platform in Basel. WP0.1 is also responsible for handling the first contacts with new projects, and for all administrative aspects such as partner changes, Cost Claims and Contract Amendments.
In recognition of the size and multi-faceted nature of the project, an internal 3-day 'Workshop' is held every year to disseminate information (through presentations from each WP and discussions), to identify and resolve any common problems, and generally to update all partners with the progress in the project and the state-of-the-art in many aspects of ATM for which experts are available within the project.
The Management Committee forms WP0.2 and comprises the leaders and co-leaders of WPGs 1-6. Its aim is to orientate and manage the project according to its overall objectives and to take into account comments made at the annual Technical Audit. The 2 Technical Audits druing this repoirting period (January and November 1999) were again successful (recommendation 'continue'), with just a couple of minor comments.
Achievements of the current period
ASPA (Ascom) produced a Contract Amendment (number 4).
ASPA (Ascom) ensured that a good working relationship with the ACTS Central Office was maintained and that appropriate management procedures were in place to guarantee the smooth running of the project.
ASPA (Ascom) ensured that Monthly Progress Reports and Deliverables were produced in a timely manner.
In recognition of the size and multi-faceted nature of the project, a Workshop was organised for all partners where presentations from each WP were given and a general information exchange took place.
Collaborations took place with the ACTS projects DIANA, IMPACT, SUSIE, REFORM and QUANTUM for the use of the Basel platform for their trials.
ASPA (Ascom) continued to co-ordinate the Management Committee which oversees the day-to-day management of the project.
Its aim is to orientate and manage the project according to its overall objectives and to take into account comments made at the annual Technical Audit. Due to the small size of the project this year, Management Committee matters were dealt with in the regular WP1.2 progress meetings. The Management Committee was responsible for approving the 10 Deliverables from the project during this reporting period.

ASPA (Swisscom) ensured that the testbed in Basel remained fully operational throughout the current reporting period. Technical and administrative support was given for WP1.2, and other projects and persons visiting the Basel site.
