Abstract (English)

One of the major changes in research mode in environmental sciences over the last decade has been the shift towards data harmonisation and compilation on a global basis. This is in response both to the opportunities afforded by increased computing power and to the needs imposed by the emerging research field of Global Change. For the past three years the EPD has continually been developed. There are now over 870 sites in the database and this number continues to grow. Different levels of taxonomic resolution, regionally differentiated floras, and taxonomic nomenclature made a harmonisation of pollen nomenclature an an European scale necessary. A special EPD group of regional experts has provided essential advice on nomenclature and systematics.
All unrestricted data of EPD as well as the annual EPD Newsletters are now available via the WWW from Medias France (http://medias.obs-mip.fr/www/francais/activites/donnees/).
