Abstract
(Englisch)
The objective of this proposal is the study and development of improved methane fuelled solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) for cogeneration of electric power and useful chemicals (e.g. synthesis gas). This will be done by a careful search for and characterization of new anode electrode materials with improved catalytic and electrocatalytic properties for selective oxidation of methane to synthesis gas (CO/H2). In parallel with this, the known conventional technology will be improved by study and subsequent development of innovative alternative fuel cell configurations and modes of operation, namely
(i) simplified SOFCs with no separation of the oxidant and fuel streams and
(ii) SOFCs operating under force d periodic reversal of flow.
