The increasing proliferation of photovoltaics (PV), electric vehicles (EV), and heat pumps (HP) is leading to changes in loading profiles in Swiss distribution grids. The resulting energy flows cause higher grid losses and put strain on cables and transformers. At the same time, these technologies offer significant flexibility potential that can be used to optimize load flows and reduce grid losses. The targeted use of flexibility can make the overall system more efficient, stable, and cost-effective.
