SMART HP seeks to accelerate the adoption of industrial heat pumps (HPs) in Switzerland by developing standardized, modular solutions that mitigate the financial and technical barriers, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises. It leverages sectorial assessments, clustering analyses, and dynamic simulations to define optimal HP configurations for cross-sector process clusters. The modularity framework accounts for both functional (temperature-based) and system-level (capacity-based) requirements, drawing from residential and refrigeration sector principles to enable plug-andplay HP deployment. The project workflow will deliver validated modular HP systems, quantify their performance under real-world load variability, and assess their manufacturability, market potential, and cost-effectiveness. It will also estimate the economic impact of modular HP adoption, including cost savings, return on investment, and the potential for load management and energy efficiency.
