LABASCO develops novel, mass-producible, film-based structured sorption contactors for efficient CO2 capture tailored to specific sorbents and use cases, including direct air capture and source capture scenarios. By integrating materials engineering, contactor structuring, and process optimization in a multiscale approach, we aim to enhance capture yield and energy efficiency. Key innovations include agile sorbent layer design, advanced structuring techniques using microstructured foils, and smart regeneration strategies. Coupled experimental and modelling efforts span from sorbent kinetics to system-level process optimization, ensuring rapid iteration and scalability. Multi-physics models validated by lab-scale tests guide the design of materials and contactors. The project lays the foundation for industrial-scale deployment with optimized performance and sustainable manufacturing.
