Abstract
(English)
The goal of the project is to develop an architecture and a set of tools, both generic and application dependent, for the enhancement of narrative spaces. This will be achieved in testing the two aspects of this goal. Telepresence (inclusion of real objects into virtual worlds) and augmented reality (inclusion of artificial object into real worlds). ALIVE will bring together towards these very specific goals image processing engineers, AI computer scientists and multimedia authors. The ALIVE trials will broadcast recent innovations in the field of intelligent distributed video processing among the authors and artists community. Indeed, the world of comics authors show a growing interest in the World Wide Web, which has become a new media able to broadcast in an easier way their production and to offer narrative spaces.

Fastcoms contribution for the Art. Live project is the PowerSight, an embedded image processing platform. The PowerSight is a multimedia processing platform based on Celeron processor with modular 10 extension possibilities over a PCI bus. If very high processing power is required, the system can optionally be equipped with a dual-DSP processor. Time-critical algorithms can be ported to this co-processor system. This extension module makes the PowerSight a platform with very high processing power, dedicated to complex image processing.
The PowerSight processing unit is designed for the use in the Art. Live project, but can be used fo! many different purposes. The device contains video framegrabber, necessary processing power for video processing and a network interface. Therefore the product can be used for any type of decentralized video processing.
Fastcom uses the PowerSight processing system as a platform for different automatic video surveillance products.
