Zur Stärkung der Missionsorientierung soll im Rahmen des Förderinstruments SOUR (SWEET Outside-the-Box-Rethinking) der ARPA-Ansatz (gemäss ARPA-E) getestet werden. Dabei wird die Übertragbarkeit von Schlüsselmerkmalen des ARPA-E-Modells auf den Schweizer Kontext geprüft und eine thematische Ausschreibung mit 2-3 Game-Changer-Projekten durchgeführt. Hintergrund ist die Empfehlung des Schweizerischen Wissenschaftsrats in seinem Bericht von 2023, das Potential und die Adaption des ARPA-Ansatzes in der Schweiz zu prüfen, um gezielt technologische Durchbrüche in gesellschaftlich relevanten Bereichen zu fördern. Der Hauptfokus des ARPA-Modells liegt darin, Projekte mit hoher Erfolgswahrscheinlichkeit bis zur Kommerzialisierung zu fördern. Zur Unterstützung des Pilotversuchs im Rahmen des Förderinstruments SOUR wird externes Expertenwissen speziell im Bereich Marktkommerzialisierung von disruptiven Innovationen benötigt.

To strengthen mission orientation, the ARPA approach (in accordance with ARPA-E) is to be tested as part of the SOUR (SWEET Outside-the-Box-Rethinking) funding instrument. This will involve examining the transferability of key features of the ARPA-E model to the Swiss context and conducting a thematic call for proposals with two to three game-changer projects. The background to this is the recommendation made by the Swiss Science Council in its 2023 report to examine the potential and adaptation of the ARPA approach in Switzerland in order to specifically promote technological breakthroughs in socially relevant areas. The main focus of the ARPA model is to promote projects with a high probability of success through to commercialization. To support the pilot project within the framework of the SOUR funding instrument, external expert knowledge is required, particularly in the area of market commercialization of disruptive innovations.

Afin de renforcer l'orientation vers la mission, l'approche ARPA (selon ARPA-E) doit être testée dans le cadre de l'instrument de financement SOUR (SWEET Outside-the-Box-Rethinking). La transférabilité des caractéristiques clés du modèle ARPA-E au contexte suisse sera examinée et un appel à projets thématique avec 2-3 projets révolutionnaires sera lancé. Cette démarche s'inscrit dans le prolongement de la recommandation formulée par le Conseil suisse de la science dans son rapport de 2023, qui préconisait d'examiner le potentiel et l'adaptation de l'approche ARPA en Suisse afin de promouvoir de manière ciblée les percées technologiques dans des domaines socialement pertinents. Le modèle ARPA vise principalement à promouvoir jusqu'à leur commercialisation les projets ayant de fortes chances de succès. Pour soutenir le projet pilote dans le cadre de l'instrument de financement SOUR, il est nécessaire de faire appel à des experts externes, notamment dans le domaine de la commercialisation des innovations de rupture.
