Decarbonizing industrial processes involves a combination of efficient energy use, carbon abatement, and electrification technologies. Integrating these options requires both technological awareness, and expertise in energy auditing and process integration across sectors, urban systems, and energy infrastructure. The lack of open-access, validated information about existing solutions prevents industries to make informed decisions and pre-evaluate their energy, environmental, and economic impacts. This project, linked to IETS Task XXIV and led by IPESE group at EPFL, aims to close this gap by promoting international collaboration for sharing digital twins of industrial processes, energy technologies and systems. It will develop an open-source platform for models and tools, leveraging integration techniques and metrics to generate industry decarbonization roadmaps, drive cross-sector collaboration, and advance open-access knowledge transfer and dissemination efforts.
