Critical raw materials (CRMs), such as copper, manganese, cobalt, rare earth elements, lithium, graphite, platinum group metals, and others, are crucial for the energy transition and digital transformation. While the global demand for these materials is expected to increase, their supply is at risk due to the current geopolitical landscape.
This report provides an overview of the geospatial distribution and the characteristics of hundreds of natural CRM-bearing occurrences in Switzerland with special emphasis on the CRMs that are currently regarded as most critical for the energy transition. The report also documents the availability of CRMs from secondary sources, as well as ongoing efforts to recover them.
