Our risk factor assessment corresponds to the criteria set out under the bilateral agreement between Switzerland and Ghana, the Paris Agreement, and the Swiss CO2 Ordinance. The key recommendations provided in this report details how the project can further meet these requirements. ‘5001: Promotion of climate smart agriculture practices for sustainable rice cultivation in Ghana’ is a soil-related agricultural practices project that is being established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Ghana. 5001 aims to expand the use of system of rice intensification (SRI) in Ghana. SRI is a practice of growing rice which aims to increase rice yields and reduce resource requirements. Principles of SRI include raising high-quality seedlings in a nursery, transplanting young seedlings, weeding, and water management 1. This project issues credits for avoided methane emissions as a result of changes in water management. As part of SRI, the project will implement alternate wetting and drying (AWD), which reduces methane emissions relative to the baseline scenario of continuous flooding. The project is implemented by farmers on their land at the direction of the Government of Ghana.
