The Sustainable Cocoa Production Program (SCPP) in Indonesia (2012–2020) successfully enhanced farmer productivity, increased incomes, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, with many benefits sustained long after the program ended. Certification and improved agricultural practices enabled farmers to maintain higher yields and access premium markets, while non-certified farmers benefited from resilience through diversified income sources. The program contributed to a 24% reduction in GHG emissions, although declining shade tree density shows the need for continued support in sustainable land management. Strong public–private collaboration, including the emergence of Koltiva, ensured ongoing technical assistance and traceability services for farmers. SCPP’s investments in human capital created lasting expertise across the cocoa sector and beyond. Overall, the program offers a scalable model for sustainable agriculture that can be adapted to other crops and regions.
