The aim of the EIT Food Seedbed Incubator is to address the unique challenges of commercialising lab-validated research innovations that have the potential to transform the food system. Seedbed Incubator is a key part of EIT Food’s entrepreneurship division that facilitates the launch of new startups and deep tech innovation spinouts in the agrifood sector. The value of the programme is in the number of teams that pursue at least one of the following commercialisation routes: - Launch a new venture; - Pursue a pilot project w ith industry; - Licencing Agreement / Partnership a nd collaboration opportunities; - Further Research / technology development; - Sponsored Research; - Secure funding includ ing EIT Food or other regional public/private funding scheme. Through a 4–6-month market discovery programme, researchers and aspiring entrepreneurs receive 1:1 business coaching, expert advice, and world-class training to learn fundamental entrepreneurship skills and startup business strategies. EIT Food offers equity-free funding for all teams to connect with its agrifood network, and talk with 100+ potential customers across Europe, where they can test their assumptions, and explore collaboration opportunities. Each participant also becomes a lifelong member of EIT Food’s new mission communities, led by top research organisations and industry professionals, specializing in different agrifood areas. Communities furthermore offer: knowledge sharing and smart networking, as well as peer-to-peer activities that speed up the delivery of widespread social, environmental and economic impact. By the end of the programme, each team will have identified the best product-market fit, and the most viable commercial routes to transform their ideas and research breakthroughs into agrifood businesses. The teams with high impact potential will then be invited to explore investment options with the EIT Food investment vehicle and apply for EIT Food BC programmes that can offer further business and technology development.
